The 2020 Pirelli Calendar Recasts Celebrities as Juliet from Shakespeare’s Play
The photos from the shooting for the 2020 Pirelli calendar appeared several days ago. This time the calendar is dedicated to Juliet from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”.
Photographer Paolo Roversi has recruited ten women – Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, Yara Shahidi, Mia Goth, Chris Lee, Claire Foy, Mia Goth, Indya Moore, and Rosalía Vila Tobella to interpret the role.
Shoot took place in Verona and Paris. For the project, named “Looking for Juliet,” the celebrities were asked to act, pose, sing with own emotions, art form.
Each of the heroines has contributed to the final version of the calendar. For example, Yara Shahidi drew inspiration from the Victorian era, Kristen Stewart brought masculine notes to this role, and Emma Watson was simply unrecognizable in the bright pink dress and white headdress worn during Shakespeare’s time.
Actress Claire Foy said Roversi was looking for an adult, 35-year-old Juliet. “The idea is in a new modern interpretation of the traditional role,” said the actress.
The Pirelli calendar appeared in 1963 as an unpublished layout. Since 1964 it has become an annual edition. The calendar, created by British art director Derek Forsythe, is produced in limited quantities. In 1993, the company decided to restart the calendar as a high-level art project.
Last year British photographer Albert Watson was the author of the publication, and his work was named “The Power of Dreams.” The cast includes model Gigi Hadid, actresses Laetitia Casta, Julia Garner, and ballerina Misty Copeland.
