Jen says she follows the 16:8 fasting : “I do intermittent fasting, so no food in the morning. I noticed a big difference in going without solid food for 16 hours.”

But not only Jenifer Aniston keeps intermittent fasting. This meal plan has already become a real viral trend in the United States.

Hugh Jackman, Tim Ferriss, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé are among its adherents. And in Silicon Valley, top managers of large companies organize corporate hunger strikes, sitting on a diet with employees. These people are sure that fasting helps them lose weight and get more energy.

The main idea of the diet is that you can take food only within a certain window of time. And you should forget about food for the rest of the day, limiting yourself to drinking water or (in some versions of fasting) vegetable juices.

There are several intermittent fasting’s schemes:

  • 16/8: 16 hours of fasting and 8 of eating. For example, you can eat between 10 and 18 hours of the day, fitting 3-4 meals during this period;
  • 14/10: 14 hours of hunger alternate with 10 hours of food consumption. This is the most permissive variation;
  • 5/2: you eat 5 days a week, and 2 fast. It means not a complete refusal of food for 2 days, but reducing your calorage to 1/4 of the usual one (about 600 calories for men, 500 for women).

Scientists have found, that intermittent fasting is not only the most effective practice for but also a great way to reduce the risk of many diseases.

So here are the main advantages of intermittent fasting.

Weight loss. Due to rather long hungry intervals, the body receives fewer calories, this helps to slim more quickly.

Reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. When you follow this diet plan, the body’s sensitivity to insulin increases, which causes a decrease in the level of this hormone in the blood.

Slow aging. Intermittent fasting increases the body’s resistance to oxidative stress – one of the main provocateurs of aging and chronic diseases.

Improving heart health. The diet reduces the emergence of factors that can negatively affect the cardiovascular system. It also helps to normalize blood pressure and to strengthen blood vessels.

Like any nutritional system or diet, intermittent fasting is not suitable for everyone.

Remember the main rule: first of all consult your doctor before trying this diet plan.

It’s better not to follow intermittent fasting for pregnant women, persons under 18 years old and underweight people as these groups of people need additional nutrients for physical development.
