When the weather becomes nippy, windy, our immunity has to work in full throttle to repel the attacks of bacteria and viruses.

The whole system is responsible for our well-being, it works even at the cell level. So for its better functioning, we should take care of all the body, otherwise, we’ll stay in bed with a high body temperature for all cold season.

Here’s what we can do to help immune system work more efficiently.

1. Do not smoke

A real focus of inflammation emerges in a smoker’s mouth and distracts the immune system. Smokers are more prone to get diseases, even serious ones like tuberculosis. Therefore, if you want to boost immunity – quit smoking.

2. Stop drinking alcohol

Experiments have proved that alcohol can suppress the activity of antitumor immunity and increase the risk of colon cancer and hepatopathy. And in the cold season, when the body is already weakened, alcohol will only worsen the general health condition.

3. Eat more vegetables and fruits

And it’s not about exotic and expensive fruits, but about the usual ones for your climate. Lemons, oranges, apples, plums, green leafy vegetables, carrots, ginger have the most positive effect on immunity.

4. Sleep

The easiest and most obvious way to increase immunity is to get enough sleep. Studies have shown that people who have a good rest even respond to flu vaccine better than those who get little sleep.

5. Do workouts

Sport helps in several directions at once. Firstly, athletic people get sick more rarely. Secondly, sport regulates sleep patterns. Thirdly, sport helps to fight obesity.

6. Maintain a healthy weight

Fat does not just accumulate in the body, it affects the hormonal balance, which contributes to illnesses.

Overweight creates an invisible, but tangible burden on the immune system. And resources are spent on the struggle not only with external viruses but also with own body.

7. Keep calm

Stress hormones really disrupt the immune system, so don’t give them a chance – just relax. This is not the worst method of boosting immunity.

8. Do not run into infections

It’s better to prevent sickness than to find cures for it. The measures include getting a flu vaccine, washing hands, healthy food, ventilating the rooms.

9. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is produced in the body by exposure to sunlight. In winter, when the clouds mostly cover the sky, people are deficient in vitamin D, which reduces immunity. So eat meat, fatty fish, and eggs to maintain its normal intake.

10. Laugher

Laughter affects the body as well as physical activity: it lowers blood pressure, relieves stress and strengthens the immune system. In addition, laughter improves appetite, lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

11. Get a cat

Cats increase the immunity of their owners, protect them from heart diseases, have a beneficial effect on the nervous system. Cat’s body temperature is 38–39 degrees, and if a person has a cold, then a purring cat, laying nearby, warms up the body and as a result, helps to cope with colds.

12. Drink more water

The liquid that we drink helps to eliminate toxins, improves metabolic processes and blood circulation and promotes rejuvenation and healing. But choose water instead of juices or soda, this variant is more healthy.

13. Cold hardening

A couple of minutes under a stream of ice water at the end of the morning shower will speed up the metabolism and increase immunity. Try cryotherapy – the procedure works not only on your figure but also activates the adaptation processes in the body.

14. Sing

When we sing, not only the vocal cords and lungs are activated, but also the spleen, which helps to increase the concentration of antibodies in the blood and strengthen the immune system. If rehearsals of a choir are not your methods, at least sing in a bath – but from the heart!

15. Stay warm

Keep your legs, arms, neck and head warm and do not allow yourself to get chilled, as it curtails the ability of our immune system to resist viruses.
