Artist Creates Funny Reproductions, Inserting Her Cat Into Art Treasures
We are sure, cats can change for the better almost everything, even the iconic art masterpieces. The last one is proved by Russian artist Svetlana Petrova.
She became famous for her online artwork of famous portraits featuring her big ginger cat Zarathustra.
Svetlana lost her mother in 2008 and got a horrible depression. The idea for the project came suddenly – her friend wondered why Svetlana didn’t make an art project with the cat.
But art demands sacrifices. Svetlana and Zarathustra spend hours in the photo studio, where specially trained people amuse the cat in every possible way, trying to seize the necessary poses. Only several photos among hundreds are selected for further work.
Sometimes “catching” the correct angle or expression takes months. But Zarathustra does not mind – he likes to be in the spotlight and eagerly poses.
Svetlana buys the digital copies of famous paintings in high resolution in stores of major museums in the world.
Firstly, the artist inserts Zarathustra into a digital copy of the picture, then the digital art is printed on a real canvas. After all this Svetlana finishes the painting using paints, brushes and techniques that correspond to the “original”.
